She planned to go over 200 mph over a five mile course on her last run. Around four miles she began to smell something burning, then smoke began filling the cockpit. Brother Jeff took a turn  on the fourth run and got it up to 201 mph. Jerry tried his hand at driving the racer and was satisfied when he hit 192 mph.

Now Jerilyn plans to go back to Bonneville in October. “I want to go over 200. Actually I just want to hit 202 and beat Jeff. Then I may retire from racing. I didn’t really think I would be so into it, but I did more than I ever thought I could. It’s given me a sense of confidence,” she concluded.

After the last run the Kugels took the car pack to the pits and changed it back to street car, took the chute off, put the license plate back on, and drove another 12 hours home, planning the October trip all the way.
